In the beginning and in the mid of the nineties ETSI standardized the circuit switched mobile radio systems GSM and DECT At the end of the nineties the packet oriented systems GPRS and HIPERLAN were standardized The capacity of these systems is limited by interference for a given spectrum and depends on the allocation of transmission capacity to competing transmission requests The present work contributes to the understanding of procedures for the allocation of channels which work decentrally and rates them by a trac theory analysis and stochastic simulations Multicellular systems with a realistic modelling of radio propagation and the resulting interference are considered and analyzed As rating criterion for the algorithms for a dynamic channel allocation the capacity of the systems GSM. DECT and HIPERLAN is taken into account but also as a function of the traffic load, the Grade of Service of speech and data services, as well as the distribution function of packet delay for packet oriented systems.
